Lumify Information

Lumify (Brimonidine Tartrate) is an over-the-counter eye drop that relieves eye redness caused by minor eye irritations such as smog, swimming, dust, or smoke. Occasional eye redness, sometimes called “bloodshot”, is a common condition caused by minor eye irritation. Common causes include environmental allergens, excessive use of digital devices such as mobile phones or computers, lack of sleep, or dry or dusty conditions. Antiglaucoma, (Alpha Agonists) medications like Brimonidine Tartrate decrease aqueous humor secretion, increase uveoscleral outflow and eliminate redness along the bulbar conjunctival microvasculature. Lumify eye drops also constrict the veins in the eye instead of arteries, thereby providing effective redness relief with a low incidence of side effects associated with other redness relievers when used as directed. It would be best to know Brimonidine is not a bleach or a dye.

Lumify Side Effects

The most common side effects of Lumify may include rebound redness; itching; foreign body sensation; tearing, and eye pain. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Blurred vision;
• Continued eye redness or irritation despite regular use;
• Eye pain, vision changes

Lumify Precautions

Do not use Lumify eye drops if you are allergic to Brimonidine or have other allergies. Before you start using Lumify eye drops, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have diabetes; recalcitrant hypertension, eye problems such as cataracts or glaucoma; trauma to the eyes; or seasonal allergies. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Lumify and other medications such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, transdermal thalidomide, and tranylcypromine. Lumify is an eye drop that should only be instilled into the affected eye(s). Instil the eye drops into the affected eye(s) every 6 to 8 hours. Do not use more than 4 times a day. Lumify eye drops significantly reduce eye redness for up to 8 hours. To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. Do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using eye drops. Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing your contact lenses. Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch. Apply gentle pressure for 1 to 2 minutes before opening your eyes. This will prevent the medication from draining out. Replace the dropper cap after each use. If you use another kind of eye medication (such as drops or ointments), wait at least 5 minutes before applying other medications. Do not use it if the solution has changed color or is cloudy. Tell your doctor if your condition lasts for more than 3 days or if it gets worse. If you think you may have a serious medical problem, discuss it with your ophthalmologist immediately.
