Mavyret Information
Mavyret (Glecaprevir/Pibrentasvir) is used for the treatment of acute or chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults and children 3 years and older, including those with compensated liver cirrhosis. It is used for all major genotypes of Hepatitis C, including genotypes 1 to 6. Hepatitis C is a viral liver infection that spreads primarily through blood-to-blood contact, often through unsafe injections, blood transfusions, or needle sharing. If left untreated, it can progress to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and ultimately liver failure. The active ingredients are glecaprevir and pibrentasvir, which classify it as a direct-acting antiviral medication. This combination drug works by targeting specific proteins that the virus needs to replicate. Glecaprevir inhibits the NS3/4A protease, and pibrentasvir targets the NS5A protein. By blocking these two different, essential viral proteins, Mavyret stops the hepatitis C virus from making copies of itself and infecting new cells, ultimately helping the body clear the infection. This dual approach is highly effective and is a key reason for its high cure rates across all six major HCV genotypes.

The typical treatment course for most individuals lasts eight weeks. Your doctor will determine the appropriate treatment course for you. Do not skip any dose or take more than the prescribed daily dose. You should always finish the entire course of treatment to ensure you clear the virus completely.
