Mestinon Information:

Mestinon (Generic name: Pyridostigmine Bromide) is a prescription medication used to treat myasthenia gravis (MG), which is a chronic disease which appears to the sufferer to weaken the muscles. Mestinon contains ingredient Pyridostigmine, it works by preventing the breakdown of a certain natural substance (acetylcholine) in your body. Acetylcholine is needed for normal muscle function. Take Mestinon exactly as it prescribed for you.

Mestinon Side Effects:

The most common Mestinon side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, or serious allergic reaction (difficult breathing; rash; hives; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Mestinon Precautions:

Do NOT take Mestinon if you are allergic to Pyridostigmine or any of the ingredients in Mestinon medication. Do NOT take Mestinon if you have intestinal/stomach blockage and urinary blockage. Before taking Mestinon, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, overactive thyroid, seizures, or other serious stomach disorder. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use, especially of: aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g., gentamicin), antiarrhythmic medications (e.g., quinidine), anticholinesterase eye medications (e.g., physostigmine), beta blockers (e.g., timolol, propranolol), mefloquine, narcotic pain medications (e.g., morphine, codeine).
