NeoVisc Information

NeoVisc (Sodium hyaluronate) is used to provide pain relief from pain and disability resulting from osteoarthritis of the knee. Knee osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage within the knee joint wears and tears. This causes pain and inflammation. NeoVisc is used to alleviate the symptoms of this condition. Viscosupplement injections like Sodium hyaluronate work by replacing the joint fluid to provide lubrication and shock absorption. NeoVisc is often administered as part of a physiotherapy treatment plan. Your doctor may also prescribe it when other arthritis medications have not been effective.

NeoVisc Side Effects

The most common side effects of NeoVisc may include stomach upset; dizziness; bruising or redness at injection site; walking difficulties; call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Severe pain or swelling at the injection site

NeoVisc Precautions

Do not use NeoVisc if you are allergic to Sodium hyaluronate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start receiving this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have a skin infection around the injection site; have a blood clot in your legs; have active synovitis; are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between NeoVisc and other medications like disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts.

Do not use NeoVisc if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known if this medication will harm your unborn baby. Do not use NeoVisc while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is not known if Sodium hyaluronate passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor. It may harm them. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will administer NeoVisc to you as an injection. The syringe is single-use and should be discarded immediately after use. You may need further treatment after the first administration of NeoVisc. Your doctor may also prescribe the treatment as part of a physiotherapy treatment. You can continue with your routine daily activities for the first 24 hours after receiving your injection. However, avoid overusing the treated joint. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store NeoVisc below 250C.
