Nexletol Information
Nexletol (Bempedoic Acid) is used along with diet and other lipid-lowering medication to treat adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH). Bempedoic acid is a first-in-class, adenosine triphosphate-citrate (ACL) inhibitor. This medication works in the liver to inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis. HeFH is an inherited condition that causes high levels of “bad” cholesterol called low density lipoprotein (LDL). Nexletol is taken with a statin medication to further lower cholesterol. Nexletol is an oral medication that is intended to be taken once daily.
Nexletol Side Effects
The common side effects of Nexletol may include abdominal pain, back pain, hyperuricemia, muscle spasms and upper respiratory tract infections. The serious side effects of Nexletol may include tendon rupture.
Nexletol Precautions
Nexletol may increase your blood uric acid levels and elevated blood uric acid may lead to the development of gout. You may want to get your uric acid levels regularly to make sure it’s in check. This medication can also increase your risk of tendon rupture or injury. Tendon rupture may occur more frequently in patients over 60 years of age or those taking fluoroquinolones. Nexletol should not be taken by women who are pregnant or breast-feeding unless recommended by your doctor.
