Ombrelle Sunscreen Information

Ombrelle Sunscreen is a line of sunscreen products used to protect the skin against immediate and long-term harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sunlight. These detrimental effects range from immediate effects such as sunburn to long-term concerns such as premature aging, dark spots, and, most seriously, skin cancer. It is typically recommended for people who need a strong and reliable ultraviolet protection, especially those with sensitive skin or who spend long hours outdoors.

It includes a group of over-the-counter sunscreen agents with different formulations. While formulations vary across this brand's range, its signature effectiveness typically relies on a blend of active ingredients, most notably the proprietary sunscreen technology involving sunscreen filters Mexoryl SX (ecamsule) and Mexoryl XL (drometrizole trisiloxane), often stabilized alongside other active ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, octisalate, and homosalate.

These products work by establishing a chemical shield on the stratum corneum of the skin. This barrier functions by absorbing ultraviolet photons and converting them into harmless thermal energy, or by scattering the light before it penetrates deeper tissue. This mechanism is vital for countering the typical skin damage from UV light, where high-energy rays disrupt cellular DNA and degrade collagen structures. Ombrelle intercepting this radiation prevents the accumulation of genetic mutations and the inflammation that characterizes both photoaging and skin cancer.

Ombrelle Sunscreen Side Effects

Ombrelle is generally well tolerated because its key filters (Mexoryl SX and XL) are photostable and have low skin absorption. However, like any topical product, it can cause reactions ranging from mild irritation to rare systemic issues. Some mild side effects include localized redness and itching, acne eruptions, and a stinging sensation.

Stop using these topical sunscreen products and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including an allergic reaction such as breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, painful, pus-filled bumps, particularly in hairy areas like the legs or arms, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat.

Ombrelle Sunscreen Precautions

Do not use these Ombrelle Sunscreen products if you are allergic to any of the active and inactive ingredients in these topical products, or any other skin product. Do not apply sunscreen to damaged, broken, or eczematous skin. While the Kids Wet and Protection lotion is safe for use in children, do not use any Ombrelle products on babies under 6 months unless directed by a doctor. An infant's skin is thinner and more permeable, allowing chemicals to be absorbed more easily. If you use the spray versions of Ombrelle (e.g., continuous spray mists), do not apply them near an open flame, lit cigarette, or while grilling. The propellants in aerosol cans are highly flammable until they dry on the skin. Chemical filters (like those in Ombrelle) need time to bind to the skin to form a uniform film. It is typically advised to apply these products at least 15 minutes before going outside. If you use it once you are already in the sun, you have already exposed your skin to damage. The filters degrade as they absorb UV radiation. You must reapply every 2 hours or immediately after swimming, heavy sweating, or towel drying. Even water-resistant formulations like the Sunscreen Sport Endurance Lotion (typically rated for 80 minutes) can be wiped off with a towel. Check out the leaflet in each product pack for usage instructions. Store these products at room temperature and keep them away from heat and direct sunlight to prevent degradation of the active ingredients.
