Palladia Information

Palladia (Toceranib Phosphate) is used to treat mast cell tumors (MCTs) in dogs. MCTS are a common type of skin cancer in dogs. Palladia is typically used for grade II or III tumors that have come back or spread to nearby lymph nodes. The drug is also used off-label to treat other types of cancers, such as anal sac tumors, thyroid cancer, nasal cancer, and metastatic osteosarcoma in dogs. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) like Toceranib Phosphate work by blocking specific signals that cancer cells need to grow and spread.

Palladia Side Effects

The most common side effects of Palladia may include vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss, tiredness, low white blood cell count, and weight loss. Call your veterinarian right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Severe vomiting;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Sudden breathing difficulty

Palladia Precautions

Do not administer Palladia if you are allergic to Toceranib Phosphate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your dog’s medical history, including if it has liver disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal ulcer, is pregnant or breeding, or is lactating. Tell your veterinarian about all your dog’s medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Palladia and other medications, such as meloxicam, prednisone, ketoconazole, phenobarbital, enalapril, etc. Do not administer Palladia if your dog is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. This medicine can harm a fetus and impair fertility in both male and female dogs. It is unknown if Toceranib Phosphate passes into milk. However, because of its potential toxicity, it is not safe for nursing puppies.

Use this medicine exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Palladia comes as tablets. The dose is usually based on your dog’s body weight. Your vet may adjust the dose depending on how well your dog tolerates it. Dogs should take it on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or after food) unless your vet says otherwise. Palladia requires close veterinary supervision, especially at the beginning. Your vet will perform regular physical exams, blood tests, and urine tests. Palladia can be harmful to humans if mishandled. Always wear gloves when giving the tablets or cleaning up your dog’s urine, stool, or vomit for a few days after dosing. Dispose of any waste in a sealed plastic bag. Store Palladia at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
