Panacur Information

Panacur (Fenbendazole) is used to treat and control parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms in dogs. Worm infestation in dogs can lead to diarrhea, swollen abdomen, weight loss, persistent sneezing, and nasal discharge. The drug is also used ti control parasites like Giardia and lungworms. Although Panacur is not FDA-approved for use in cats, your veterinarian may prescribe it to treat certain parasites. Benzimidazoles like Fenbendazole kill parasites.

The most common side effects of Panacur may include appetite loss, lethargy, and vomiting. Call your veterinarian right away if your dog has any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, including facial swelling, lethargy, hives, etc.

Panacur Precautions

Do not administer Panacur if your dog is allergic to Fenbendazole or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your medical history, including if it has any sickness, is pregnant, breastfeeding, or lactating. Tell your veterinarian about all your dog's medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Panacur and other medications. Do not administer Panacur if your dog is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. The safety and effectiveness of this drug in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs is unknown. Administer this medicine exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Panacur comes in different dosage forms. Do not use different dosage forms for your pet at the same time. Administer Panacur orally. Shake the liquid suspension before giving it to your dog. You can mix the dose with a small amount of dog food. Ensure your dog eats all of the medicated food. You may need to moisten dry dog food to aid in mixing it with the medicine. If you are administering the paste form of Panacur, put the recommended dose at the back of your pet's tongue after feeding. Administer Panacur granules orally.

Your dog's dose will be based on its weight. Weigh your dog to ensure you use the right sachet size and number of packets. The next higher size is safe if your dog's weight is between the suggested dosing sizes. Deworming schedules may vary depending on the climate where you live and your dog's activity. Dogs over six months of age should be dewormed at least twice yearly. Deworm newly weaned pups (between 6 and 8 weeks of age) at 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks. Treat the mother at the same time as the puppies. Dogs can become infected with several different kinds of tapeworms. However, Panacur is only effective against the Taenia species of tapeworms. Panacur works within a few hours. You might see dead worms passed shortly after giving the medication. If you continue to see tapeworm segments in your dog's stool after treatment with Panacur, consult your veterinarian. Do not administer this medicine in other household pets without talking to your veterinarian. This drug is not for humans to use. Please do not take it. Wash your hands immediately after administering Panacur. Store Panacur at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
