Papaverine HCL Injection Information

Papaverine HCL Injection (Papaverine hydrochloride injection) is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Erectile dysfunction is when there is a persistent difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sexual activity. It can result from high blood pressure, heart disease, smoking, excessive alcohol use, stress, anxiety, or depression. Papaverine HCl is also used to relieve vascular and visceral spasms. Vasodilators like Papaverine hydrochloride relax smooth muscles in the blood vessels. This action increases blood flow.

Papaverine HCL Injection Side Effects

The most common side effects of Papaverine HCL Injection may include dizziness, flushing, headache, low blood pressure, and nausea. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Heart rhythm disturbances;
• Priapism – erection lasting more than 4 hours (seek immediate medical attention);
• Severe low blood pressure;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Papaverine HCL Injection Precautions

Do not use Papaverine HCL Injection if you are allergic to Papaverine hydrochloride injection or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have heart rhythm problems, severe liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, a recent heart attack, or heart disease. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Papaverine HCL Injection and other medications, such as amiodarone, amlodipine, lisinopril, metoprolol, digoxin, ketoconazole, clarithromycin, warfarin, etc. Papaverine hydrochloride injection is not for use in women. This medicine is not for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medicine is not for use in children and adolescents. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Papaverine HCL comes as an injection. Your first dose will be given in a clinic so your doctor can demonstrate the correct technique and check your response. Never self-inject until you’ve been adequately trained. Use only the exact dose prescribed. Always wash your hands before injecting Papaverine hydrochloride. Inject into the side of the penis, halfway between the base and the head. Avoid the top (nerves) and bottom areas (urethra) and any visible veins or midline of the shaft, to prevent injury to the nerves or urethra. Alternate sides each time you inject. Erection usually begins 5-15 minutes after injection. The duration of the erection should not exceed 1 hour after sexual activity is complete. Do not inject more than once every 24 hours and no more than 3 times a week. Store Papaverine HCL Injection at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
