Parsitan Information

Parsitan (Ethopropazine Hydrochloride) is used in the symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease, a neurological disorder characterized by a dopamine deficiency in the brain, leading to movement and coordination abnormalities. Parsitan is often particularly helpful for managing tremor and other movement symptoms associated with Parkinson's. Parsitan has also been found effective for treating extrapyramidal disorders such as akinesia, Parkinsonism, and acute dystonic reaction, which are movement disorders that can be side effects of certain psychiatric or anti-nausea medications (like antipsychotics such as chlorpromazine or haloperidol). These symptoms can include muscle stiffness, spasms, and uncontrollable movements.

Ethopropazine is a potent anticholinergic agent. In Parkinson's disease, the loss of dopamine-producing cells leads to a relative overactivity of another neurotransmitter: acetylcholine. Ethopropazine then works by blocking the action of acetylcholine at its receptors. By inhibiting this overactive acetylcholine, the drug helps restore a better chemical balance, which in turn helps decrease symptoms such as muscle stiffness, tremors, loss of coordination, and other related symptoms.

It is worth noting that while thopropazine is indicated for treating various extrapyramidal side effects of certain medications, it is not used for tardive dyskinesia as it can worsen the condition.

Parsitan Precautions

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to ethopropazine, other ingredients in Parsitan, or any other medications. Before you start taking this medication, ensure that you inform your doctor about any prior or current medical conditions, including the following:
• Gastrointestinal conditions such as bowel obstruction;
• Glaucoma;
• Heart disease;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Muscle problems such as myasthenia gravis;
• Urinating difficulty

Because ethopropazine causes drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, you should avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require mental alertness until you know precisely how the drug affects you. Consult your doctor before using this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as there are limited data on its safety and efficacy in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Caution is advised when using this medication in older adults, as they may be more susceptible to its side effects.

Ethopropazine Hydrochloride can interact with various other medications, such as antihistamines and tricyclic antidepressants, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, before taking this medication, inform your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking, including herbal medicines, to determine if it is safe to use along with Parsitan. Take Parsitan tablets orally as prescribed by your doctor or as stated in the medication pack. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose for you depending on your condition. Take this medication regularly at the exact times each day to maintain a consistent level in the bloodstream. Abrupt discontinuation of the drug is not recommended, as it could lead to a sudden worsening of symptoms. Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.
