Persantine Information:

Persantine (Dipyridamole) is used to prevent blood clots after heart valve replacement surgery. Persantine helps to prevent platelets in your blood from sticking together and forming a blood clot on or around an artificial heart valve, and helps keep blood flowing and keeps heart blood vessels open. Blood clots can cause serious complications such as strokes, heart attacks or blocked blood vessels in the lungs. Persantine is often used with other blood thinners, such Warfarin, to prevent blood clots. Use all medications as directed by your doctor. To make sure Persantine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have coronary artery disease (hardened arteries), liver disease, angina, or if you have recently had a heart attack. Talk to your doctor about any possible risks associated with pregnancy or breastfeeding. Persantine should not be given to a child under the age of 12. Tell your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking to reduce the risk of interactions. Do not take aspirin while you are using Persantine. If you experience any serious side effects, severe chest pain, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
