Prinivil (Lisinopril) Information

Prinivil, which contains the active ingredient lisinopril, is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children at least 6 years of age. In adults, it is also prescribed for heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack. The medication is taken by mouth as a tablet, typically once daily. It can be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure-lowering medications to help protect your health by reducing the strain on your heart and blood vessels.

Prinivil Side Effects

Prinivil Precautions

Do not use Prinivil if you are allergic to lisinopril or any other ACE inhibitor or if you have a history of severe allergic swelling (angioedema). Before starting treatment, inform your doctor of your complete medical history, especially if you have kidney disease, diabetes, or cardiovascular conditions. Tell your doctor about all medications you take, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Prinivil may cause low blood pressure, especially after the first dose or if you are dehydrated, on a low-salt diet, or taking diuretics (“water pills”). Dizziness or fainting may occur, particularly when standing up quickly. Specific individuals, including Black patients, may have a higher risk of developing angioedema while taking ACE inhibitors.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Prinivil should not be used during pregnancy as it can cause serious injury or death to a developing fetus. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; consult your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits.

Use Prinivil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken at the same time each day to maintain steady levels in your bloodstream. Do not stop using the medication without consulting your doctor, as your blood pressure may increase. Store the tablets at room temperature, away from heat and light, and keep out of reach of children.
