Proin Information
Proin (Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride) is used to control urinary incontinence in dogs. Urinary incontinence in dogs refers to the involuntary leakage of urine, meaning a dog loses bladder control and unintentionally dribbles or leaks urine, often without even realizing it's happening. This condition can result from urinary tract infections, prostate disorders, neurological disease, or spinal injuries. Proin will not effectively treat dogs with incontinence due to neurologic disease or malformations. Proin may also be prescribed off-label to treat urinary incontinence in cats. Only a veterinarian with direct and personal knowledge of your pet should prescribe this medicine. Sympathomimetic amines like Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride stimulate the smooth muscles of the urethra, bladder neck, and urethral sphincter to increase tone and close the neck of the bladder to control incontinence.
Proin Side Effects
The most common side effects of Proin may include appetite loss, diarrhea, increased thirst, and lethargy. Call your veterinarian right away if your dog has any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Insomnia;
• Irritability;
• Restlessness
