Risperdal Information:

Risperdal (Generic name: Risperidone) is an antipsychotic medication is used for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents ages 13-17 years. Risperdal is used alone or combination with other medicines (lithium or valproate) for the short-term treatment of bipolar mania in adults, children and adolescents ages 10-17 years. Risperdal is also used for the treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents ages 5-16 years. Risperidone is known as an atypical antipsychotic medicine that works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

Risperdal is available in a variety of forms including: Risperdal tablets, Risperdal M-Tab (oral disintegrating tablet), and Risperdal Oral Solution. Take Risperdal Risperidone exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Risperdal Side Effects:

The most common Risperdal side effects are abnormal pain, blurred vision, constipation, difficult sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, impotence, nasal congestion, nausea, and weight gain. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as confusion, fainting, fever, irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, muscle stiffness, seizures, tremor, vision changes, and serious allergic reaction (e.g., itching, rash, swelling, trouble breathing), please inform your doctor immediately.

Risperdal Precautions:

Do NOT take Risperdal if you are allergic to Risperidone or any of the ingredients in Risperdal medication. Before taking Risperdal oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as blood disorders, breast cancer, diabetes, dehydration, heart disease or stroke, kidney or liver disease, Parkinson’s disease, seizures or epilepsy, suicidal thoughts, or trouble swallowing. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Risperdal drug, especially of: antibiotics, anticonvulsants; antidepressants; antifungal; antihistamines; anti-seizure; muscles relaxants; psychiatric medicines; medicines to treat high blood pressure, heart problem and Parkinson’s disease. Risperdal medicine is not for use in psychotic conditions that are related to dementia. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
