Stugeron Information

Stugeron (Cinnarizine) is used to prevent and manage a range of conditions related to motion sickness, balance disorders, and circulation problems. It is commonly prescribed to help prevent and relieve the symptoms of travel sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness that occur during journeys by car, boat, or plane. In addition, Stugeron is effective in managing inner ear and balance disorders, including vertigo (a spinning sensation), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and Ménière’s disease. It helps stabilize the inner ear and reduce the discomfort associated with these conditions. Stugeron is also used to improve blood circulation in individuals with peripheral vascular disease. Enhancing blood flow can help ease symptoms such as pain in the legs during walking (intermittent claudication) and coldness in the hands and feet.

Antihistamines like Cinnarizine work by blocking H1 histamine receptors in the brain. This action helps reduce nausea and vomiting, making it helpful in preventing travel sickness. Cinnarizine also acts as a calcium channel blocker, limiting the flow of calcium ions into specific muscle cells in blood vessels. By doing so, it helps stabilize the sensory cells in the inner ear’s vestibular system, which reduces the abnormal nerve signals that cause dizziness and balance problems. In addition, it promotes vasodilation, or the widening of blood vessels, especially in the brain. This improves microcirculation and enhances blood flow to the inner ear, further supporting balance and reducing symptoms of vertigo.

Stugeron Side Effects

The most common side effects of Stugeron may include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, indigestion, and weight gain. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Extrapyramidal symptoms, such as tremors, muscle stiffness, and involuntary body movements (in older people);
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Stugeron Precautions

Do not use Stugeron if you are allergic to Cinnarizine or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have porphyria, parkinson’s disease, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Stugeron and other medications, such as antihistamines, sedatives, antidepressants, etc. Cinnarizine is not usually recommended during pregnancy. Its safety has not been fully established. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor, as they may recommend a more suitable alternative. The quantity of Cinnarizine that passes into breast milk is unknown. However, since the drug can cause drowsiness, use wth caution when breastfeeding. Using Stugeron occasionally for a short time may be acceptable if your baby is healthy. Still, it’s not recommended when nursing a newborn or premature baby, as it could make the baby unusually sleepy. The safety and effectiveness of Stugeron in children younger than 5 years old have not been established.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Stugeron comes as tablets. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Dosing depends on age and the condition being treated. This medicine can cause drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel drowsy. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Stugeron, as it increases drowsiness and sedation. Long-term use in older people may increase the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms and has been sometimes associated with depression. If you are doing a dermal allergy test, inform your doctor. The antihistamine effect of Stugeron may interfere with the results of dermal allergy testing if taken within 4 days before the test. Store Stugeron at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
