Sular 24 Hour Tablets Information

Sular 24 Hour Tablets (Nisoldipine) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is typically used alone or in combination with other medications, along with dietary and lifestyle modifications. If left unmanaged, hypertension can lead to severe complications like stroke, heart failure, or kidney disease. This medication can help control blood pressure and reduce the risk of these complications. The active ingredient in this medication is nisoldipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker.

Nisoldipine works by selectively blocking the influx of calcium ions into the smooth muscle cells of the peripheral arteries. Since calcium is necessary for muscles to contract, blocking these channels prevents the vessels from tightening. This results in significant vasodilation, reducing peripheral vascular resistance and allowing blood to flow more freely. By lowering blood pressure, nisoldipine effectively reduces the workload on the heart and protects delicate organs from the long-term damage associated with high blood pressure. It is available as a 24-hour extended-release formulation, which is particularly useful as it maintains stable blood levels throughout the day, providing consistent control with just a single dose.

Sular 24 Hour Tablets Side Effects

Like all medications, nisoldipine can cause some side effects. Common mild side effects of this medication include dizziness, swelling of the ankles and feet, flushing, or headache. Getting up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position can help to reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness. Contact your doctor if these mild side effects persist or worsen.

Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including the following:
• Allergic reactions such as breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat;
• Heart problems with symptoms like chest pain, irregular heartbeat, palpitations, and breathing difficulties;
• Severely low blood pressure with symptoms like severe dizziness and lightheadedness, confusion, and fainting

Inform your doctor about any other side effects you notice that are not listed here.

Sular 24 Hour Tablets

Do not take this medication if you are allergic to nisoldipine, other ingredients in Sular 24 Hour Tablets, or any other medicines. Before you start taking this medication, ensure that you inform your doctor about any prior or current medical conditions, including the following:
• Heart disease, such as aortic stenosis, heart failure,and angina;
• Liver disease;
• Low blood pressure

Grapefruit blocks the liver enzyme needed to metabolize nisoldipine, which can, in turn, cause the drug's concentration in your blood to spike, sometimes up to 3 to 7 times the normal level, leading to dangerous side effects. Therefore, avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication. Likewise, high-fat meals can increase the peak concentration of nisoldipine, so avoid them while taking this medication. Do not use this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless recommended by your doctor. This medication is not recommended for use in children.

Like grapefruits, some other medications can slow the liver enzyme that metabolizes nisoldipine, leading to dangerously high levels. Some of these include antifungals such as ketoconazole and antibiotics such as erythromycin. Therefore, inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including herbal medications and supplements, that you are taking before starting Sular 24 Hour Tablets to prevent drug interactions. Take each tablet by mouth, on an empty stomach, preferably at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage for you. Since it comes in extended-release tablets, swallow them whole and avoid crushing or chewing them. Take this medication regularly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Store this medication in a cool, dry place and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
