Synolis VA Information

Synolis VA (Hyaluronic Acid/Sorbitol) is an effective viscosupplement used to treat symptomatic osteoarthritis in synovial joints. It is primarily used to reduce localized joint pain, decrease stiffness, and improve overall joint function in individuals with degenerative joint changes associated with osteoarthritis. While it is most frequently used in the knee joint, the higher-volume formulation is also indicated for hip osteoarthritis as well as osteoarthritis of the shoulder and ankle. It is typically used in individuals who have not achieved adequate relief from conservative non-pharmacological therapies, or when they cannot tolerate or fail to respond to standard simple analgesics and oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Synolis VA replenishes depleted, watery joint fluid by directly injecting a viscoelastic, non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid solution. Once injected into the joint cavity, this viscoelastic solution coats the internal surfaces, restoring natural lubrication and reducing friction during slow movements. It simultaneously acts as a physical shock absorber under sudden pressure, reducing the mechanical stress transferred to damaged cartilage and painful bone endings.

Also, to prevent the inflamed joint from rapidly destroying this treatment, Synolis VA includes a high concentration of sorbitol. Sorbitol functions as a potent antioxidant, neutralizing harmful free radicals before they can degrade the injected solution. This chemical protection ensures that hyaluronic acid remains intact and structurally stable within the joint for a prolonged period. By combining immediate mechanical cushioning with antioxidant defense, this medication swiftly reduces localized arthritic pain and improves mobility.

Synolis VA Side Effects

This medication can cause some localized side effects, such as pain, redness, skin irritation, and swelling at the injection site. Minor bleeding, as well as temporary joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, may also occur. Consult your doctor if you experience any of these side effects, and if they persist or worsen.

Seek immediate medical attention if you notice severe symptoms of allergic reactions, such as breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat. Inform your doctor about any other side effects you notice that are not listed here.

Synolis VA Precautions

Do not use this viscosupplement if you have:
• An allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, other hyaluronic acid preparations, or other ingredients in Synolis VA;
• An intravascular (inside a blood vessel) or extra-articular (outside the joint cavity) injection.
• Skin disease or infection over the injection site

Caution is advised when using this medication in individuals with certain medical conditions. Therefore, before using this medication, ensure you inform your doctor of any medical conditions you have, especially active or prior autoimmune diseases, for which clinical safety data are limited. Certain skin disinfectants, especially those containing quaternary ammonium salts such as benzalkonium chloride, are contraindicated because they cause hyaluronic acid to precipitate when used with this viscosupplement. Synolis VA is also not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women due to a lack of clinical data. Store this medication between 2°C and 25°C, but do not freeze. Keep away from children and pets.
