Tolak Cream Information

Tolak Cream (Fluorouracil Sodium) is used to treat actinic keratosis. Actinic keratosis, or solar keratosis, is a rough, scaly patch on the skin caused by years of sun exposure. These patches may be considered the beginning stages of skin cancer. This condition usually affects older adults and is most common on the face, lips, ears, back of hands, scalp, neck, and forearms. Reducing sun exposure can reduce the risk of actinic keratosis. Anti-metabolites like Fluorouracil Sodium work by inhibiting the growth of abnormal cells. The drug targets and destroys cancerous and precancerous cells in the affected area while less impacting healthy cells.

Tolak Cream Side Effects

The most common side effects of Tolak Cream may include itching or stinging at the application site, redness and discomfort in the treated area, swelling, and scaling. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Severe itchiness or red rash in the treated area;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Vision problems

Tolak Cream Precautions

Do not use Tolak Cream if you are allergic to Fluorouracil Sodium or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency, inflammatory skin conditions, open wounds, eye problems, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Tolak Cream and other medications, such as brivudine, other topical medications, etc. Do not use Tolak Cream if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. This medicine will harm an unborn baby and cause congenital disabilities if used in pregnancy. Women who can get pregnant should use an effective method of birth control during treatment with Tolak Cream and for at least one month after their last dose. Men with partners who can get pregnant should use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy when using Tolak Cream and for at least 3 months after their last dose. Do not use Tolak Cream while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Fluorouracil Sodium passes into breast milk. However, it can cause serious side effects in a nursing infant.

The safety and effectiveness of Tolak Cream cream in children younger than 18 years old have not been established. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Tolak Cream comes as a cream. This medication is a topical medication and should be used on the skin only. Please do not take it by mouth. To use this medication, wash your hands before and after applying. Gently wash, rinse, and pat dry the area to be treated. Apply a thin layer of Tolak Cream cream to the affected area. Massage the cream gently and evenly into your skin. Apply Tolak Cream 1.5 to 2 hours before bed. Do not apply this medication right before going to bed. Use this medication for the full prescribed length, even if your skin looks better. Avoid contact with other areas of your body or transferring the cream from your body to other people. Rewash your hands after applying the medicine. Your dose may vary depending on your condition and response to treatment. Tolak Cream can make you more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid sun exposure when using this medication. Inform your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen within 2 weeks of using Tolak Cream. Do not share this medication with others, even if they have the same symptoms as you. Store Tolak Cream at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
