Trintellix Information
Trintellix (Vortioxetine) is used to treat major depressive disorder, especially in adults with anxiety. Depression is a complex mood disorder characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, changes in appetite or sleep, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and sometimes thoughts of worthlessness or hopelessness. The interesting fact about Trintellix is that some studies have shown it can potentially offer benefits beyond just the classic emotional symptoms of depression. For example, some data suggest it might help with the speed of processing (a type of cognitive function) in adults experiencing a major depressive episode.
Vortioxetine's mechanism of action is rather complex, compared to some other antidepressants, as it is a serotonin modulator or multimodal antidepressant. Like a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), such as Prozac, it blocks the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT), thereby increasing the levels of this neurotransmitter in the brain. However, it also directly modulates several different serotonin receptors, which contributes to its unique antidepressant effects beyond simple serotonin reuptake inhibition. This unique combination of actions is believed to help regulate serotonin activity, thereby improving mood and other depressive symptoms.
