Trivastal Information

Trivastal (Piribedil) is primarily used alone or with other medications such as levodopa to treat Parkinson's disease. It is typically prescribed to reduce tremors, stiffness, and other symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease. Research suggests that it may also offer benefits in treating age-related cognitive and memory impairments in elderly individuals, as well as peripheral vascular diseases. Trivastal contains the active ingredient piribedil, which belongs to the class of medications called dopamine agonists. Parkinson's disease is a progressive brain disorder that primarily causes movement disorders. It is usually caused by damage to the nerve cells that produce dopamine, a chemical substance needed for controlling movement. Trivastal works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain, thereby compensating for the reduction in dopamine associated with Parkinson's. It also blocks the alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, which may contribute to its cognitive benefits and improved blood flow.

Side Effects

Like all medications, piribedil has a range of potential side effects. Common mild side effects include dizziness, nausea, temporary reduction in blood pressure when standing up, and vomiting. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including the following:
• Allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Abnormal behaviour such as aggression, confusion, agitation;
• Hallucinations, delusions, or other psychotic symptoms;
• Movement abnormalities;
• Reduced impulse control, including compulsive urge to gamble, or engage in sexual activities;
• Sleep disorder such as sudden onset of sleep;
• Syncope

These are not all of Trivastal’s side effects. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
