Urso Information:

Urso (Generic name: Ursodiol, Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is a prescribed medication used for the treatment of cholestatic liver disease. Ursodiol is a bile acid. It works by decreasing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver and absorbed by the intestines. Ursodiol helps break down cholesterol that has formed into stones in the gallbladder. Urso is used to treat small gallstones in people who cannot have gallbladder surgery, and to prevent gallstones in overweight patients who are losing weight rapidly, and to treat a certain type of liver disease (primary biliary cirrhosis, PBC). Take Urso exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Urso Side Effects:

The most common Urso side effects are back pain, diarrhea, dizziness, flu symptoms, headache, nausea, stomach upset, or vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, depression, fever, muscle pain, nervousness, urination problem, vision changes, or signs of allergic reactions (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Urso Precautions:

Do NOT take Urso oral if you are allergic to Ursodiol or any ingredients in Urso medication. Urso is NOT used for the treatment of gallstones that are calcified. Before taking Urso Forte oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: certain gallbladder disease, liver disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Urso drug, especially of: aluminum antacids, cholesterol medications, estrogen including birth control pills and hormone replacement. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
