Valtrex Information
Valtrex (Generic name: Valacyclovir Hydrochloride) is an antiviral medication used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses including cold sores (fever blisters or herpes labialis), genital herpes, and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. Valtrex is also used in children to treat cold sores (12 years older) or chickenpox (2 to 18 years of age). Valacyclovir Hydrochloride lowers the ability of herpes viruses to multiply in your body. Take Valtrex capsules exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Valtrex Side Effects
The most common Valtrex side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, depression, dizziness, headache, joint pain, menstrual pain, nausea, stuffy nose, and tiredness. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as bloody diarrhea, confusion, easy bruising or bleeding, fainting, fever, jaundice, mood changes, red spots on the skin, seizures, urination problem, vision problem, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, itching, rash, swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Valtrex Precautions
Do not take Valtrex if you are allergic Valacyclovir or any of the ingredients in Valtrex medication. Before taking Valtrex oral, tell your doctor if have had any medical conditions such as blood disorders, depression, immune system disorder (e.g., bone marrow transplant, HIV/AIDS, organ transplant), and kidney disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Valtrex drug, especially of: antiviral; cancer drugs; IV antibiotics; lithium; methotrexate; NSAIDs, pain or arthritis medicines; and medicines for organ transplant rejection, ulcerative colitis. Valtrex will NOT cure herpes infections. Valtrex will NOT prevent the spread of genital herpes. Avoid sexual intercourse or use condom to prevent spreading the virus to others
