Vandazole Information

Vandazole (metronidazole) is used in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis in non-pregnant women. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an abnormal vaginal condition that is characterized by vaginal discharge and results from an overgrowth of atypical bacteria in the vagina. It is due to an imbalance of the bacteria that are normally present in the vagina. Metronidazole is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Vandazole is available as Vaginal Gel with dosage 0.75%/70 gm. Do not take Vandazole by mouth. It is for use only in the vagina.

Vandazole Side Effects

The most common side effect of Vandazole may include vaginal secretions, in different colour and texture; stomach discomfort; headache; menstrual pain; breast pain; nausea; cold symptoms and fungal infections. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Liver problems with symptoms such as stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fever;
• Numbness, tingling of the hands, feet, seizures;
• Severe skin reactions;
• Vaginal irritation.

Vandazole Precautions

Do not use Vandazole if you are allergic to metronidazole or to any other ingredients in this medication or if you are pregnant. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have a disease of the central nervous system; have had severe liver problems; blood problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Vandazole and other medications such as lithium or a blood thinner. Do not drink alcohol while taking Vandazole because it may cause stomach cramps, flushing, nausea, vomiting, and headache. Do not have vaginal intercourse or use tampons or douches while using this medication. Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing such as nylon underwear or panty hose that does not allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until your infection is healed. Vandazole may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Vandazole is not approved for use in children younger than 12 years old, or in girls who have not begun having menstrual periods.
