Vevye (Cyclosporine) Information

Vevye, which contains the active ingredient cyclosporine, is a prescription ophthalmic solution used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. It is a water-free, non-preserved solution that uses a unique semi-fluorinated alkane vehicle (perfluorobutylpentane) to enhance cyclosporine penetration into the cornea.

The mechanism of action involves reducing chronic ocular surface inflammation, allowing the eye to produce more of its own natural tears, and improving the overall health of the ocular surface.

Vevye Side Effects

Vevye is generally well-tolerated, but common side effects may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Commonly reported effects include eye irritation, which may manifest as a temporary burning, stinging, or itching sensation immediately after application. You may also experience temporary blurred vision or a slight decrease in vision sharpness shortly after instilling the drops.

More serious side effects can occur and require immediate medical attention. Stop taking the medication and seek help if you experience:
• Severe allergic reaction, including hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, a racing heart, or difficulty breathing.
• Signs of an eye infection, such as unusual discharge, swelling of the eyelids, or severe redness.

Vevye Precautions

Do not use Vevye if you have a known allergy to cyclosporine or any of the inactive ingredients in the medication. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor of your complete medical history, especially if you have a history of cancer in or around the eye or any active eye infections. If you have previously had an eye infection caused by the herpes virus, inform your doctor, as this medication may impact your recovery or risk of recurrence.

Tell your doctor about all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. There are no known significant drug interactions between Vevye and other medications, as blood concentrations of cyclosporine remain undetectable after topical use. If you use other eye drops, you must wait at least 15 minutes between products to ensure proper absorption.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Vevye should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether cyclosporine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding while using this medication.

Use Vevye exactly as your doctor tells you. Before applying Vevye, wash your hands thoroughly. If you wear contact lenses, you must remove them before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower lid to create a pocket, and instill one drop without touching the bottle tip to your eye, eyelid, or any other surface to avoid contamination. After applying the drop, you should refrain from driving or operating machinery until any blurred vision clears. Store the bottle at room temperature (15°C to 25°C or 59°F to 77°F). Do not freeze or refrigerate this medication. Vevye can be used until the expiration date printed on the bottle even, after opening. Always keep Vevye safely out of the reach of children.
