Viokase (Generic name: Pancrelipase USP tablets) is a prescription medication used to treat pancreatic enzyme deficiency. Viokase is a combination of three types of digestive enzymes including lipase, protease, and amylase. It helps patients to improve digestion if they cannot digest food properly. Viokase is also used in patients with cystic fibrosis, chronic inflammation, and other pancreatitis disorder. Take Viokase exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The most common Viokase side effects are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, gas, headache, nausea, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects, and a sign of serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT take Viokase oral if you are allergic to pork or any of the ingredients in Viokase medication. Before taking Viokase capsules, tell your doctor if you have had a sudden onset of pancreatitis, difficult swallowing, bowel obstruction, or worsening of chronic pancreatic disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Viokase drug.
