Wellbutrin SR (Bupropion Hydrochloride ER Tablet) is used to treat major depressive disorder (depression) and seasonal affective disorder (seasonal depression). The main difference between depression and seasonal depression is when the symptoms occur. Antidepressants like Bupropion Hydrochloride ER Tablet regulate chemicals like norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain.
Wellbutrin SR Side Effects
The most common side effects of Wellbutrin SR may include dry mouth, headache, blurred vision, nausea, trouble sleeping, and dizziness. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of a seizure, such as feeling anxious, stiffening of your arms and legs, muscle twitching, losing consciousness;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Suicidal thoughts
Wellbutrin SR Precautions
Do not use Wellbutrin SR if you are allergic to Bupropion Hydrochloride ER or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have epilepsy, eating disorders, suddenly stopped using alcohol, seizure medication, or sedatives, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Wellbutrin SR and other medications, such as aripiprazole, clonazepam, duloxetine, lisinopril, prednisone, propranolol, Xanax, tramadol, trazodone, etc. Do not take Wellbutrin SR within 14 days of stopping an MAO inhibitor.
Do not use Wellbutrin SR if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your medicine during pregnancy. Do not use Wellbutrin SR while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Bupropion Hydrochloride ER passes into breast milk. However, it may not be safe to breastfeed when using this medicine. Do not give this drug to children younger than 18 without talking to your doctor. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Wellbutrin SR comes as a tablet. Do not break or chew the medicine. Swallow the tablet whole. Too much of this medicine can increase your risk of a seizure. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. You may take this drug with or without food. Do not stop taking this drug suddenly without talking to yout doctor unless you have a seizure while taking Wellbutrin SR. Stopping this drug suddenly can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to stop using this medicine safely. This medicine may affect a drug-screening urine test, and you may get false results. Tell the laboratory staff that you use Wellbutrin SR. Do not drink alcohol when taking this medicine. Alcohol may increase your risk of seizures. This medicine can also cause seizures in a regular drinker who suddenly stops drinking at the start of the treatment with Wellbutrin SR. Inform your doctor if you drink alcohol regularly. This medicine can impair your reactions. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how Wellbutrin SR will affect you. Store Wellbutrin SR at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
