Winlevi (Clascoterone) is a topical medication used to treat acne vulgaris in patients aged 12 years and older. Its active ingredient is clascoterone, which belongs to a novel class of drugs called androgen receptor inhibitors. Acne vulgaris is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to the formation of pimples. Several factors contribute to the development of acne, including inflammation and excessive sebum (oil) production. While the mechanism of action of Winlevi is not well understood, it is believed to block the androgen receptors in the skin, primarily in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Winlevi Side Effects

• Allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;

Winlevi Precautions

• Skin infections or wounds

Consult your doctor before using this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Avoid using this medicine in children under 12 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established in this age group. Clascoterone may interact with other medications or substances, such as topical and oral corticosteroids. Therefore, inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines, including other topical treatments, that you are taking before starting Winlevi to prevent potential drug interactions. Winlevi is available as a topical cream for application topically to the affected area of the skin twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Ensure the affected area of the skin is clean and dry before applying the cream. Do not cover the applied areas of the skin with occlusive dressing to avoid absorption of this medicine into the systemic circulation. Avoid getting this medication in contact with your eyes, mouth, or vagina. Also, avoid using skin products that may dry or irritate your skin, such as medicated soaps, while using Winlevi.
