Xelpros Information

Xelpros (Latanoprost) is used to treat high eye pressure due to glaucoma and other eye diseases. Ocular hypertension is when the pressure in the eye is higher than it should be. Lowering high pressure inside the eye helps to prevent blindness. Prostaglandin analogs like Latanoprost increase the flow of natural eye fluids out of the eye to reduce the pressure.

Xelpros Precautions

Do not use Xelpros if you are allergic to Latanoprost or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have had eye surgery, have a herpes infection of the eyes, have ever had renal detachment, have had swelling or an infection in your eye; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Xelpros and other medications, like ophthalmic medications. Do not use Xelpros if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if Latanoprost can harm your unborn baby. Do not use Xelpros while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is not known if Latanoprost passes into your breastmilk or if it may harm nursing infants. It is not known if this drug is safe for use in children below 18 years of age. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Wash your hands before applying the eye drops. The usual dose is 1 drop of Xelpros in the affected eye every evening. Tilt your head backward and slightly pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket for the eye drop. Close your eyes for 2 to 3 minutes after instilling the drop with your head tipped down and without blinking or squinting. Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about one minute to prevent the liquid from draining into your tear duct. Avoid touching or placing the dropper tip directly on your eye to prevent contamination. Do not use this drug while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the medicine before inserting your contact lenses. Store an unopened bottle of this medicine in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. After your first use, store the eye drops at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Throw away the medicine after 6 weeks since you first opened the bottle. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
