Yentreve Information

Yentreve (Duloxetine) is used to treat stress urinary incontinence in women. Stress urinary incontinence is a urological condition in which there is the accidental leakage of urine when pressure in the bladder is increased suddenly, for example, by coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, or exercising. This condition usually happens when the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder are weakened. Childbirth is a common reason for a weak pelvic floor. Stress incontinence causes embarrassment and even social isolation, which may have a profound negative impact on the quality of life of the affected individuals. The first recommended treatment for stress incontinence is pelvic floor exercises, which can also be managed medically when pelvic floor exercises alone are not effective. A combined serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor like Duloxetine is believed to increase the tone and contraction of the urethral sphincter, which helps prevent accidental urine leakage during physical activities such as sneezing, coughing, laughing, lifting, or exercising.

Yentreve Side Effects

The most common side effects of Yentreve may include nausea (usually mild and resolved within one week to one month in most patients), headache; insomnia; constipation, dry mouth; dizziness; and fatigue.

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
• Abnormally fast heartbeat;
• High blood sugar (increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor);
• Nausea and vomiting that doesn’t stop;
• Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting, light-headedness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, fatigue);
• Problems with vision or speech;
• Sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body);
• Severe nervous system reaction (very stiff muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, feeling like you might pass out)

Yentreve Precautions

Do not use Yentreve if you are allergic to Duloxetine or any other ingredients in this medication or within 2 weeks of discontinuing Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you are under 18 years; glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome; liver disease including hepatitis B or C infection; hereditary fructose intolerance; liver disease uncontrolled hypertension; pregnant, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. During pregnancy, your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of using this medication. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. The use of Yentreve while breastfeeding is not recommended. You should ask your doctor for advice before breastfeeding a baby. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Duloxetine and other medications such as fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin, tryptophan, tramadol, and warfarin. Yentreve is a tablet that should be taken orally with a cup of water. Follow your doctor’s prescription carefully. The usual dose is one 40 mg capsule twice daily (in the morning and late afternoon). The tablet can be taken either before or after meals. Take the capsules with a drink of water to help you to swallow. If you are taking Duloxetine for the first time, your doctor may give you the lower 20 mg strength capsule for a couple of weeks to help avoid any unwanted symptoms when you first take Duloxetine. Try to take your doses at the same times each day, as this will help you remember to take your doses regularly. Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking while taking Yentreve tablet. Drinking alcohol can increase the risk of unwanted effects from Duloxetine, such as dizziness and blurred vision. Yentreve may make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or use tools or machines until you know how Yentreve affects you. Do not miss your clinic appointment. This is so your doctor can check your progress and review your treatment. Keep taking Duloxetine until your doctor tells you otherwise. Stopping suddenly can cause problems, and your doctor may want you to reduce your dose gradually when necessary. Keep your medication in a safe and away from the reach of children.
