Zyn Information
Zyn (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) is used as a smokeless and spitless alternative to traditional tobacco products like chewing tobacco and cigarettes. This can be appealing to adults who are looking for a more discreet or convenient way to use Nicotine, especially in places where smoking or vaping might be restricted. Quitting smoking improves health status and enhances quality of life. It also reduces the risk for many adverse health effects, including cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cancer, and poor reproductive health outcomes. Nicotine Replacement Therapy like Zyn delivers Nicotine into the bloodstream through the mucus membrane of the mouth. Zyn is not an FDA-approved Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) for smoking cessation.
Zyn Side Effects
The most common side effects of Zyn may include changes in taste, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, hiccups, increased salivation, and mouth irritation. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Increased anxiety and depression;
• Increased risk of periodontal disease;
• Severe gum irritation and recession;
• Severe headaches and migraines;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
Zyn Precautions
Do not use Zyn if you are allergic to Nicotine or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have an active peptic ulcer, hyperthyroidism, never used nicotine, pheochromocytoma, severe heart conditions like recent stroke or heart attack, severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Zyn and other medications, such as theophylline, clozapine, imipramine, warfarin, insulin, hormonal contraceptives, tacrine, etc. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Zyn. Nicotine can harm an unborn baby. Using Zyn in pregnancy can lead to adverse outcomes, such as premature birth, low birth weight, stillbirth, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). However, smoking is harmful to both mother and child. Pregnant women trying to quit smoking should consider behavioural support and counselling. However, if these are unsuccessful, your doctor may consider a less harmful alternative to continued smoking. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed before using Zyn. Nicotine passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. It can cause potential issues like increased heart rate, disturbed sleep patterns, restlessness, reduced appetite, and gastrointestinal problems in a nursing infant. Do not use this medicine in children without talking to your doctor. Zyn is meant for use in adults who are at least 21 years old and are already nicotine users.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Zyn comes in a pouch. Place the pouch under your upper lip, between your gum and cheek. Keep the pouch in place for about 15 to 60 minutes. After 60 minutes, remove the pouch and dispose of it properly. Do not chew or swallow Zyn. This medication is harmful when swallowed. Use Zyn only to manage Nicotine cravings. However, do not use more than the recommended number of pouches per day to reduce the risk of nicotine addiction. Zyn is not for use by non-smokers or occasional smokers. Do not use Zyn for more than 6 months without talking to your doctor. Regular use of Nicotine can lead to dependence. Store Zyn at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
