Lozide, which contains the active ingredient indapamide, is a medication classified as a thiazide-like diuretic. It reduces vascular smooth muscle responsiveness to vasoconstrictors and interferes with calcium movement within the smooth muscle cells. This direct action on blood vessels contributes significantly to its sustained antihypertensive effect, independent of its diuretic action, making it highly effective for blood pressure control.
