Avalide (Generic name: Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination medication used to reduce high blood pressure (hypertension). Avalide may also be used to help prevent diabetic kidney problems. Avalide contains two active ingredients: Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Irbesartan belongs to a class of drugs called Angiotensin II Blockers. It helps to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic or “water pill”. It helps to control blood pressure by getting rid of excess salt and water. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Avalide Side Effects:
