Cresemba Information

Cresemba (Isavuconazole-Isavuconazonium Sulfate) is used to treat invasive fungal infections caused by aspergillosis or mucormycosis in adults and children. Illnesses caused by aspergillosis usually affect the respiratory system. Azole antifungals like Isavuconazole and Isavuconazonium Sulfate work by stopping the growth of fungi.

The most common side effects of Cresemba may include nausea; headache; constipation; sleeping difficulties; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:

Cresemba Precautions

There may be a drug interaction between Cresemba and other medications, like ketoconazole; phenobarbital; ritonavir; rifampin; St. John’s wort;. Do not use Cresemba if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. Women who can become pregnant should use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while taking Cresemba and for 28 days after the last dose. Do not use Cresemba while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Isavuconazole-Isavuconazonium Sulfate passes into your breastmilk and may harm nursing infants. This drug is safe for use in children. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take this drug by mouth with or without food. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not crush, break, or chew. Continue using this drug for the full prescribed amount of time, even if your symptoms disappear. Stopping the medicine suddenly increases your risk of a re-infection. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
