Prevident Information

Prevident is an over the counter toothpaste that combines the cleaning power of a toothpaste with prescription-strength fluoride. It helps restore the breakdown of enamel, prevents further decay, aids plaque removal, and decrease painful tooth sensitivity in adolescents aged 16 years and older, and adults, particularly amongst patients at risk from multiple caries. Prevident is used to help prevent cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease. Prevident can work quickly to improve dental health. Early tooth decay can reverse within 3 months of using Prevident 5000 products. This is most likely near the root surface. The toothpaste contains fluoride as sodium salt, which belongs to a group of medicines called caries preventing agents.

Prevident Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Few rare side effects of using this toothpaste include allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, and redness and burning oral sensation. Tell your doctor/dentist right away if your teeth become stained or pitted. This is often a result of too much fluoride.

Prevident Precautions

Do not use Prevident if you are allergic to sodium fluoride or to any other ingredients in this medication. Talk to your doctor or dentist, or pharmacist before using Fluoride Toothpaste if you are under 16 years of age or if you have a kidney disease. Fluoride Toothpaste has a high fluoride content. Fluoride tablets, drops, chewing gum, gels or varnishes, fluoridated water or salt, should be avoided during the use of Fluoride Toothpaste. Use in patients under age 6 years requires special supervision to prevent repeated swallowing of dental cream which could cause dental fluorosis. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. Fluoride Toothpaste contains sodium benzoate, which is a mild irritant to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. If you swallowed a large amount of toothpaste by mistake, and if you experience digestive problems such as being sick, diarrhoea, and pain in the stomach or abdomen, you must tell a doctor immediately. Do not eat or drink anything or rinse your mouth for 30 minutes after using Prevident. Consult doctor before using Prevident if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
