Vyndamax (Tafamidis) is a medication specifically used to treat a serious and progressive heart condition called transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy. Vyndamax, with the active ingredient tafamidis, is a medication from the class of drugs known as transthyretin stabilizers. Transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy is caused by the misfolding of a protein called transthyretin (TTR), which then breaks apart and forms amyloid deposits in the heart. These deposits cause the heart muscle to stiffen, making it difficult to pump blood effectively. Vyndamax helps in this disease by acting as a kinetic stabilizer. It binds to the transthyretin protein, essentially holding its structure together and preventing it from breaking apart. By stabilizing the transthyretin protein, it appears to slow down the formation of new amyloid deposits in the heart.
