Crinone 8% Gel Information
Crinone 8% Gel (Progesterone) is used primarily to support pregnancy in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF). It is typically used to support the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, a critical period for establishing and maintaining pregnancy. During this phase, after an egg is released, the body naturally produces progesterone to prepare the uterine lining for a fertilized egg. If progesterone levels are insufficient, the uterus may not be receptive to implantation, leading to infertility or early pregnancy loss. Crinone 8% Gel may also be used to treat secondary amenorrhea. In this condition, menstrual periods stop due to a hormonal imbalance, often insufficient progesterone. Crinone 8% Gel works by delivering micronized progesterone directly into the vagina. The bioadhesive gel adheres to the vaginal lining and slowly releases the hormone over time. This consistent release helps to thicken and prepare the endometrium, the lining of the uterus. By making the endometrium more receptive, it increases the chances of a fertilized egg successfully implanting and being nourished, thereby supporting the initial stages of pregnancy, especially in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, such as IVF. This medication also matures the uterine lining in individuals with secondary amenorrhea. When you stop using it, this mature lining sheds, triggering a menstrual period.
