Cyclogest Information

Cyclogest (Progesterone Vaginal Tablet) is used to restore normal menstrual periods that have stopped for several months (amenorrhea) in women who are not pregnant and not going through menopause. It is also effective in treating premenstrual syndrome (including mood swings, breast tenderness, appetite, fatigue, irritability, and depression), to treat postpartum depression, and to use in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Progesterone Vaginal Tablet is like the Progesterone that the body naturally makes and is given to replace the hormone when the body is not making enough of it. Progesterone is also used as part of combination hormone replacement therapy with estrogens to reduce menopause symptoms (such as hot flashes). Progesterone is added to estrogen replacement therapy to reduce the risk of cancer in the womb. Progestin (Vaginal Preparation), like Cyclogest, works by adjusting the hormonal balance within the body.

Cyclogest Side Effects

The most common side effects of Cyclogest may include breast enlargement, breast tenderness, mood swings; nausea; headache, abdominal pain; depression; and sleep disorder (sleepiness).

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Bloody discharge from the breast;
• Breast lump;
• Depression or other psychotic problems;
• Ectopic pregnancy, including mental/mood changes (such as depression and memory loss);
• Nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop;
• Recurrent vaginal vaginosis;
• Unusual vaginal bleeding (such as spotting, breakthrough bleeding)

Cyclogest Precautions

Do not use Cyclogest if you are allergic to Progesterone or any other ingredients in this medication. Before you start inserting Cyclogest vaginal tablet, tell your doctor about your medical history, including history of breast lump or breast cancer; history of miscarriage; liver disease; vaginal bleeding of unknown cause; high blood pressure; stroke or blood clots disorder; depression or mental illness; eye problems including cataract or glaucoma. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cyclogest and other medications, such as other topical tablets or creams. Before using progesterone vaginal tablet, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Cyclogest is a vaginal suppository, and it should be inserted into the vagina or anus. Always wash your hands thoroughly before inserting. Place the pessary between the lips of the vagina and push the pessary upwards and backward. You may find it easier to do this lying down or squatting. After this, the pill will melt, and the Progesterone from the pill is absorbed into the general circulation by the blood vessels in these areas. If you forget to insert a pessary, do so as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Never use two doses together. You should follow your prescription label carefully. Do not worry if you find changes in your menstrual cycle. You may find that your monthly period will start earlier than usual, or it may be delayed. After using Cyclogest, you may notice some leakage after the pessary has dissolved. Do not worry; this is quite normal when using medicines that are inserted into the vagina or rectum. Discuss with your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition or if you experience unusual bleeding or spotting. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Cyclogest vaginal tablet can be used during the first trimester of pregnancy for women who need extra Progesterone while undergoing treatment in an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) program. Discuss with your doctor if you are eligible to use Cyclogest during pregnancy. Do not use Cyclogest while breastfeeding a baby. Discuss alternative treatment options with your doctor.
