Effient Information:

Effient (Generic name: Prasugrel) is a new anti-platelet medication used to prevent blood clots in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who are undergoing a procedure after a recent heart attack or stroke, and in patients with heart disorder or blood vessel problems. Prasugre helps keep blood platelets from sticking together to form clots which can block an artery. Effient is an approved drug that provides new treatment for preventing potentially dangerous blood clots from forming and causing a heart attack or stroke during or after an angioplasty procedure. Take Effient exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Effient Side Effects:

The most common Effient side effects are back pain, cough, dizziness, headache, nausea, and tiredness. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as bleeding, bloody stools, bruising, chest pain, confusion, fever, jaundice, numbness, pale skin, weakness, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Effient Precautions:

Do NOT take Effient oral if you are allergic to Prasugrel or any of the ingredients in Effient medication. Before taking Effient, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as active bleeding, blood clotting disorder, stomach ulcer, severe liver disease, stroke including TIA (“min-stroke”), trauma, and weight less than 132 pounds. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may interact with Effient drug, especially of: blood thinner (Coumadin), and NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen).
