Repronex Information
Repronex (menotropins for injection) is a preparation of gonadotropins that contain both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity.
• In Women: Menotropins are used to stimulate follicular development and induce ovulation in anovulatory women (do not ovulate) or oligo-ovulatory (ovulate infrequently) and to promote the development of multiple follicles in ovulatory women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). The FSH and LH activity in menotropins are essential for the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles.
• In Men: Menotropins, typically administered in conjunction with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), are used to stimulate spermatogenesis (sperm production) in men with primary or secondary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. While hCG stimulates the Leydig cells to produce testosterone, which is necessary for sperm production, the FSH activity in menotropins directly acts on the Sertoli cells to support the maturation of sperm.
Menotropins are injectable medications that deliver hormones the body recognizes and can use to promote reproductive function. Once inside the body, the hormones act on the ovaries or testes to facilitate the reproductive process, leading to the development of mature eggs in women or increased sperm production in men.

Repronex Precautions
Do not use Repronex if you are allergic to menotropins or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have primary ovarian failure, uncontrolled non-gonadal endocrinopathies (e.g., thyroid, adrenal, or pituitary disorders), abnormal vaginal bleeding of undetermined origin, ovarian cysts or enlargement not due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), sex hormone-dependent tumours of the reproductive tract, pituitary tumour, presence of any cause of infertility other than anovulation unless you are a candidate for ART procedures, primary testicular failure, tumour of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus, presence of any cause of infertility other than hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, a history of thromboembolic events or are at high risk for blood clots, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Repronex and other medications. For example, the use of Repronex with clomiphene citrate is not recommended as it may result in an excessively rapid ovarian response. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Repronex. Repronex is used to induce ovulation or spermatogenesis in women and men seeking to become pregnant, and it is generally discontinued once pregnancy is confirmed. A pregnant woman should discuss her specific pregnancy needs with a doctor. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed before using Repronex. It is unknown if menotropins pass into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not use this medicine in children without talking to your doctor. The safety and effectiveness of Repronex in children have not been established.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Repronex comes as a powder to be mixed with a liquid and injected subcutaneously (under the skin) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). Your healthcare provider will show you how to prepare and inject the medication. Do not mix with other medicines in the same syringe. Do not use the medication if it looks cloudy, has changed colours, or contains particles. Inject Repronex at the same time(s) each day to help you remember. Your doctor may order regular blood tests and ultrasounds to monitor your hormone levels and ovarian response (in women) and adjust your dosage as needed. In women, treatment cycles usually involve daily injections for several days, followed by hCG administration to induce ovulation. In men, treatment may continue for several months. Continue taking Repronex as directed by your doctor. Repronex is a prescribed medication for infertility and should be used under close medical supervision. Store Repronex at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
