Trulance Information

Trulance (Plecanatide) is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in adults. IBS-C is when people have irritable bowel syndrome and experience constipation instead of diarrhea. IBS-C can cause symptoms including abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. Constipation occurs when a person does not pass bowel movements often enough, typically fewer than three times a week. Symptoms of IBS-C include straining, gas, infrequent bowel movements, abdominal pain, hard or uncomfortable bowel movements, and secondary health issues like hemorrhoids. Trulance is also used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC). CIC is a long-lasting constipation with an unknown cause. IBS-C and CIC have similar symptoms. Nausea, frequent stomach ache that goes away after you poop, and loose watery stools between bouts of constipation are the differentiating symptoms between IBS-C and CIC. Guanylate cyclase-C agonist medications like Plecanatide work by increasing fluid in the digestive tract. This softens stools, increases the speed of food and waste traveling through the digestive system, and increases the frequency of bowel movements. Trulance also reduces the discomfort that often occurs with long-term constipation by decreasing the sensitivity of pain-sensing nerves in the digestive system. You may experience some level of improvement within the first week of using Trulance.
