Viibryd Information
Viibryd (Vilazodone) is an antidepressant primarily prescribed for treating major depressive disorder in adults. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyed, affecting how a person feels, thinks, and behaves. Vilazodone belongs to the class of drugs known as serotonin modulators, quite specifically a serotonin partial agonist and reuptake inhibitor. Vilazodone brings a double approach to the treatment of depression. First, it selectively blocks the reuptake of serotonin, thereby increasing the levels of available serotonin in the brain. Second, it partially activates a specific serotonin receptor, which some believe might enhance the overall mood-regulating effect. The cumulative impact of these actions rebalances the brain chemistry, leading to an improvement in mood and its depression symptoms.

As with any medication, vilazodone can cause a range of side effects, some of which are mild and others that are serious but rare. Possible mild side effects to be aware of include diarrhea, nausea, trouble sleeping, and vomiting.
