Yupelri Information
Yupelri (Revefenacin) is used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is used for maintenance treatment, to relax the airway and prevent sudden and acute exacerbation of this condition. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a progressive and irreversible disease of the lungs that makes it hard to breathe due to blocked airflow resulting from long-term inflammation and damage to the lungs. It causes symptoms such as cough, wheezing, difficulty in breathing and chest discomfort. Yupelri’s active ingredient is revefenacin, which belongs to the class of medications called long-acting muscarinic antagonists. Revefenacin works by blocking muscarinic receptors (specifically M3) in the airways, which are implicated in airway narrowing and mucus production. By blocking these receptors, it relaxes the muscles surrounding the airways, widens the air passages, and reduces mucus production. These actions help to reduce coughing, wheezing, difficulty in breathing and other symptoms of COPD make it easier for patients living with this condition to breathe more easily. Yupelri is, however, not for use in treating acute attacks of COPD as it has not been proven to be effective in providing relief for acute onset of COPD symptoms.
