Dostinex (Cabergoline) is a potent, long-acting dopamine receptor agonist primarily used to treat conditions associated with abnormally high levels of the hormone prolactin in the blood, also known as hyperprolactinemia. These conditions include idiopathic hyperprolactinemia, in which the cause of the elevated prolactin is unknown, and prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas, benign tumors of the pituitary gland classified as microprolactinomas or macroprolactinomas depending on their size. By lowering prolactin levels, Dostinex helps to treat the associated symptoms of hyperprolactinemia, such as missing or irregular menstrual periods and abnormal breast milk production in both men and women.

Additionally, it may be used to inhibit breastfeeding immediately after childbirth in women who have had a stillbirth or miscarriage or to suppress breast milk production once it has already started.
