This oral formulation uses a sticky, tissue-adhering polymer (polyvinylpyrrolidone, or PVP) to coat these raw areas, while a moisture-binding component (sodium hyaluronate) keeps the tissue hydrated and glycyrrhetinic acid soothes the area. By physically covering the open sores, the gel creates a dense barrier that completely blocks saliva, food particles, and fluids from touching the raw tissue. This mechanical shield prevents external irritants from contacting the exposed nerve endings, preventing pain signals from being triggered without numbing the mouth or requiring pain medications. Gelclair is typically packaged as a concentrated gel in single-dose sachets, which must be diluted with approximately 1 to 3 tablespoons of water, mixed thoroughly, and then used to rinse and gargle for at least 1 minute before spitting out.
