Emend Information
Emend (Aprepitant) is an anti-nausea medication used together with other medications to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused by surgery or cancer chemotherapy. Emend capsules contain Aprepitant, a neurokinin receptor antagonist. This medication works by blocking the neurokinin-1 receptors in the brain, which stops
substance P from acting on them and that prevents nausea and vomiting. Emend is given ahead of time and is not used to treat nausea and vomiting that you already have.
Emend may interact with birth control pills, diltiazem, tolbutamide, blood thinners, midazolam and other medications such as antidepressants, antibiotics, antifungals, cancer medications, HIV medications, steroids and seizure medications. This medication should only be used during pregnancy when it is prescribed.
