It is also used to disinfect mucous membranes and provide local anesthesia during endoscopy, intubation, digital rectal examinations, rectoscopy, and gynecological investigations, as it helps minimize procedural pain and prevent iatrogenic bacterial infections.
The medication provides simultaneous anesthesia, antisepsis, and lubrication. The lidocaine component stabilizes nerve cell membranes, blocking pain signal transmission.
